The Healing in Dead Sea

The Dead Sea has a unique content of oxygen in the air. The natural healing power of the Dead Sea found in our modern equipped treatment centre is utilized to treat skin diseases and joint disorders. The Dead Sea mud is rich in salts and minerals, like magnesium and silicon compounds, as the mud absorbs them from the water itself. It nourishes your skin and helps stimulate blood circulation.

Dead Sea Medical Center

One of the first treatment center of its kind in Jordan, the world-renowned Dead Sea Medical Centre is the only place in the region offering natural skin care treatments. Located at Dead Sea Spa Resort, this facility draws upon the unique beauty and the natural healing elements of the Dead Sea, providing an ideal setting for therapeutic treatments ranging from anti-stress therapy, spa massages and mud packs to ultrasound therapy, galvanic therapy, microwave therapy, cryotherapy and hydrotherapy.
In addition to private treatment rooms, the Medical Center features a saltwater swimming pool for the care of skin diseases and joint disorders and private male and female solariums with direct access to the Dead Sea. A natural phenomenon occurs at the Dead Sea: an additional layer caused by the high rate of evaporation in the atmosphere filters out the harmful rays of the sun creating a favourable UVA/UVB ratio.
The director of the medical center, a dermatologist with rich experience in climatotherapy, oversees a staff of English- and German-speaking medical professionals. The Dead Sea Medical Center is open 7 days per week.

The climatic therapy is considered physiotherapy totally free of side-effects available in traditional therapy methods. The consequent tests show that the therapy results continued for longer periods longer than other methods. The other advantage for this therapy is that it can be applied with children, and when applied for more than one time the results appear immediately and the symptoms disappear for longer periods.

The Dead Sea is the only place on earth where you can sunbathe for extended periods with little or no sunburn because harmful ultraviolet rays are filtered through three natural layers: an extra atmospheric layer, an evaporation layer that exists above the Dead Sea, and a rather thick ozone layer. It is recommended, however, that guests to the Dead Sea maintain careful and progressive exposure to the sun.

The Dead Sea is known for its unique climatic conditions. Firstly the area has 330 sunny days a year. There is less than 50mm annual rainfall. Low humidity with dry air and constantly high temperatures are known to soothe the symptoms of asthma, cystic fibrosis and certain lung diseases. Sunlight at the Dead Sea is high in therapeutic UVA rays and low in burning UVB, so extended exposure is safe and low-risk. The filtering effect comes from a thick atmosphere: the Dead Sea is about 1,200 feet below sea level and the ozone layer above it is minimally depleted.

Definition:
The therapeutic utilization of climatic factors available in the Dead Sea area in addition to bathing in the Dead Sea Water ( Thalasso-therapy ) is called climatic therapy. It is proved being a natural and safe therapy with high percentage of clearing almost without side effects.Climatic therapy is aimed to solve the physical, practical and psychological aspects of being a skin sufferer. It provides an opportunity to help patients to achieve a good quality of life despite the handicap of skin suffering, because skin diseases like psoriasis effect every aspect of life. In their social life they are often hindered to participate in sports or group activities or holidays. It causes emotional problems often resulting in divorce or relationship difficulties.

Methodology:
  • General and dermatological check up
  • Steroids are stopped 4 weeks prior therapy
  • Depending on skin type and skin sensitivity gradually increasing exposure to UV – rays ( measurement of erythema and melanin index )
  • Depending on skin disorder and skin condition gradually increasing bathing times
  • Patients with infectious diseases or allergic to sunlight are excluded
  • Daily follow up – data registered
  • Lubricants and oils, keratolytic ointments are used topically, oil bath and coal tar applied if needed

Period of Treatment:
Average 3 weeks

Psyche and skin:
Many Dermatologists believe that stress and psychological distress can make skin diseases – psoriasis and eczema for example – worse.
Anti-stress therapy, group therapy, individual psychological consulting is part of our program.

The healing power of the Dead Sea:
The water of the Dead Sea has 29% of salt & mineral contents, the highest of all seas with especially high concentration of Calcium, Magnesium (anti – allergic effect), Bromine (relaxing effect) and of Bitumen which makes the skin more photosensitive and also has an anti – inflammatory effect.
The healing power of the air is related to its unique content and the special atmospheric layer. This layer is created through the high rate of evaporation caused by high temperatures all year round, low humidity and high atmospheric pressure. The extremely pure and dry air is the richest in oxygen content in the world.
Of more than 330 sunny days of the year, the atmospheric layer filters out the harmful UVB sunrays, allowing tanning rather than burning, The UVA rays that do penetrate are suitable for therapeutic purposes.
In addition, high concentration of dark peloid mud, suitable for therapeutic purposes, are found on the shores of the Dead Sea.

Medical care at DEAD SEA MEDICAL CENTER consists of:
Extensive specialized examination as well as the explanation of the individual therapeutic measures at the beginning of the treatment.
Specialists control and evaluate the therapeutic plan.

The climatic therapy for dermatology is proven successful in treatment of psoriasis arthropathic and Psoriasis diseases. Furthermore, other diseases can be cured such as neurodermitis, diseases and the vitro, achtyosis, para psoriasis group as well as arthrosis, rheuma and Arthritis. Patients with acute, infectious, chronic and photo related skin diseases as well as heart, blood circulation, palpitation, recurrent thrombophlebitis, severe varicosis, post-thrombotic syndrome, vlcus scrves, marchumar therapy and Epilepsy as well as Rheumatic fever and psychiatric diseases should avoid the climatic therapy.

Guidelines for initiation of climatic therapy process:

  • Cortisone ointment therapy should be stopped four weeks prior to initiation of climatic therapy.
  • In case of head psoriasis, a hair cut is recommended.
  • To bring sufficient amount of prescribed medication for other diseases.
  • Sun glasses and sunshine protective creams are necessary.

Patients find themselves at the Dead Sea in an atmosphere that helps them to relax and remove stress. And through other patients who often suffer the same symptoms they exchange experiences about their physical and psychological suffering caused by the Dermatology in the family life and marital relation or in the workplace.

Patient feels with other psychological pressure, which has a positive effect on the appearance of his skin. The Dead Sea Spa Medical Center is designed in a manner that allows socialization between those who have skin diseases and those who have healthy skin in the hotel and all facilities (except for the sun-bathing area).

This gives the patient the opportunity to learn about the social aspects, that is, the patient can show his body in front of other patients in the hotel without shame, and could wear swimming cloths.

Of course the improvement of the skin condition helps him to do so. He could through conversation with the physician and the therapy group explain his own sensitivity towards his sufferings in life which will improve his skin problems and during the convalescences period where he could prepare himself to go back home and the possible changes to incorporate his positive experiences during convalescence period on the Dead Sea in his normal, daily life.

Dear Patients,

Many people suffering from chronic skin diseases such as psoriasis or neurodermitis suffer not only from health or physical problems but also from social and psychological problems. They feel that the world is not accepting their diseases. Every patient should learn how to accept himself with his disease and to adjust his life according to this disease.

The climatic treatment at the Dead Sea in Jordan gives the patient multiple opportunities:First, treatment based on dermatology which apply the Dead Sea

Second, in social and psychological teams as the patients could reduce their sufferings through exchanging information with other patients in addition to that, physician discussions and group treatments may help in learning new life styles that enable the patients to show their skin without shame, and this aspect has its positive effect at home later that is acceptance and satisfaction instead of suppression.
This info will provide you with a physical therapy method free of any side effects with good results.
